It effectively keeps heat and cold from traveling through the window. During cold months, the glass perimeter stays warmer, so there's less condensation. During the summer, the surface stays cooler. And the U-channel spacer flexes during temperature changes, relieving stress on the sealant and minimizing glass movement.
